Saleen confirms intent to produce version of Camaro
Forever known as a tuner of all things Mustangs, Saleen is going to be broadening its portfolio to include more than just that one pony car in its corral. An interview with Steve Saleen by CarCrazy.com Assistant Editor John Breaux reveals that Saleen will likely be working with General Motors on future products, including the new Camaro.Saleen also reveals that the Camaro's top end V8 will be a 6.2-liter producing 450 horsepower that will also be the new base engine in the Corvette. The Camaro's base V8, he goes on to say, will probably be a detuned version of the same engine. From there, Saleen plans to have a base Camaro model available making around 485 horsepower, with a supercharged version producing 600 horsepower. Saleen has been buddying up with General Motors on the set of the new Transformers movie, where a new Camaro has been cast to play the part of Bumblebee.

Im from australia & I think - Thats just wrong! Thats like McDonalds selling Pepsi, AMG doing BMW and KFC selling Coke. That will kill any respect for them from the Ford fraternity and strengthen their competitors. Its all about loyalty.

Do we really need another outlandish, gas guzzling car in this world? There is absolutely no reason for this car to exist save what must be a HUGE ego and little prick of the buyer.

#5. The very fact that you seek to tell people what sort of cars they should or should not buy speaks to how large of an ego you have.
I mean really... Grow up and get over yourself.

6.2? 450 HP? Is this to combat the car's weight? Why can't they make a platform similar to the 350Z? 3400lbs 300HP 0-60 5.9.

This is not a good sign. You will know the end of the (Ford) world is near when Jack Roush starts racing Chevys in NASCAR.
However, this is only based on a comment made by Steve Saleen. I'd wait a bit for a confirmation from someone at GM before passing judgement.
From a business viewpoint, ya can't really falut Saleen. He's only going where the money is; maybe he's tapped out at Ford?
And if true, isn't this more an indictment of SLP, Baldwin/Motion and other GM tuners? Where have they been during this Camaro craze?

This new Camaro could be a pretty damned good outlandish, gas-guzzling car -- I can't wait.
But why is Bumblebee a Camaro? Shouldn't he be a New Beetle if anything?

No offense, but that would be dumb to stop buying Saleen upgraded Ford products because of this. Use common sense, a tuner dedicated to one manufacturer is suicide. SS, SVT, SRT, AMG are not the same as Saleen, Banks, Hennessey, Lingerfelter...etc.

Yes we do, as many as we can get. I don't especially like big cars, but hate your incessant whining even more. Sick of you pansy a$$e$.
"HUGE ego and little prick" That cliche is as gay as they come. About the size of my "EGO"? I can send a couple of pics for your significant other to worship.
SmartCars? exactly what is so smart about them? I'll take public transportation or walk before I get into one of those piss-ant little death traps. Did you ever wonder why "REAL motorcycles" outsell Vespas and bikes of that ilk 10,000 to one here in the US? It's because they're are not a practical application to our commuting needs. Ever tried riding a Vespa from New York to Boston? I guess we should also dig up all our interstate highways or lower the speed limit to accommodate your toy cars.
Build as big and as bad as you can, we will buy them.

Umm.. it's called a Corvette (top curb weight 3200 lbs with 400-500 hp)
I believe the Saturn Sky Red Line achieves your 0-60 with lower weight (~2900lbs).
Isn't the Z basically a two seater and the Camaro a 2+2?
Not sure if many Chevy guys will buy into a Saleen Chevy... that's just sounds wrong.

I'm with #9 here... the real shocker in this article is that Bumblebee will not be a VW bug (new or old) but is going to be a camaro. WTF!?!?!
